Apple has a gift for all of us stuck at home under lockdown – it’s made a number of shows on its Apple TV+ streaming service free to watch. It already made season premieres free to watch, but now it’s unlocked entire series and feature-length movies for no fee at all.

Interested? Here’s how to watch without paying a thing.

What can you watch for free on Apple TV+?

Apple has made nine series and movies completely free to watch. These are:

• The Elephant Queen – a documentary about a family of elephants as they travel across the African savannah. Narrated by Chiwetel Ejiofor
• Little America – comedy drama focusing on immigrants who have settled in America
• Servant – psychological thriller about a couple who experience a tragic event, only for a mysterious force to enter their home
• For all Mankind – space drama from Star Trek‘s Ronald D. Moore
• Dickinson – comedy starring Hailee Steinfeld about the early life of writer Emily Dickinson
• Helpsters – kids’ puppet show from the creators of Sesame Street
• Ghostwriter – four kids are helped by a ghost on their mission to release fictional characters from the books they feature in
• Snoopy in Space – animation in which the iconic pup becomes an astronaut
• Oprah’s talks on the coronavirus pandemic

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Apple’s flagship shows See and The Morning Show aren’t included. It still wants you to subscribe to its £4.99/$4.99-per-month service, natch! You can, however, watch those for free by signing up to the Apple TV+ seven-day free trial.

How to watch Apple TV+ shows for free

To watch, all you’ll need is the Apple TV app. This comes pre-installed on supported devices made by Apple (and some Samsung smart TVs) or can be downloaded for other devices like Roku and Amazon streaming sticks.

Then just follow these steps.

• Open the TV app on your supported device
• Sign in with your Apple ID
• Select a show and start watching

Though it may be difficult to stay separated from friends and family while practicing social distancing, there are still ways you can connect. You can even host a virtual game night and play fan-favorite Jackbox games on teleconferencing platforms like Zoom. Here’s how to play Jackbox on Zoom to have some at-home fun.

To start a virtual game, you’ll want to first make sure you and your fellow players have stable internet connections — Jackbox recommends having a wired internet connection — and a videoconferencing service like Zoom or Google Hangouts. You’ll then need to start the game on your laptop and turn on the screen sharing option so your pals can see the game on the call. Your friends can also play remotely using their smartphones by opening Jackbox.tv on a web browser. If you’re having trouble getting back to the conferencing screen while in full screen mode, just go to the game’s setting on the main screen and turn off “Full Screen Mode.”

There are a few other ways you can host a remote Jackbox game night with your buddies. If you use Steam, which is a free software you can download to play Jackbox games, you can use Steam Remote Play Together to share your games online with friends. Only one person needs to own a copy of the game if you’re using Steam Remote Play Together, and playing with up to four people is ideal, but if you have faster internet connection, even more players can join. You and up to nine friends can also play a virtual game using Discord screen sharing. Some game consoles like the Xbox One have co-streaming abilities, too.

On Friday, March 20, Jackbox announced it is offering Drawful 2 for free as Steam codes, which you can use on your PC, Mac, or Linux. You’ll be able to get the Steam code through Saturday, April 11, by heading to the Jackbox shop, the Steam store, or the the App Store for Apple TV. Once you’ve got a Steam code, you can redeem it on your account to start playing. The deal is only available while supplies last, so you’ll want to grab it ASAP.

Today we’re happy to release new versions of Seas0nPass and aTV Flash (black) that are compatible with latest 5.0 (iOS 5.1) software running on the ATV2. A ton of work has gone into getting everything updated, and a huge thanks go out to Brandon Holland (@640774n6) and Dustin Howett (@DHowett) who both contributed immensely in adding support for 5.0.

Is this a tethered or untethered jailbreak? What’s the difference?

Seas0nPass currently provides a tethered jailbreak for the new 5.0 (iOS 5.1) Apple TV software. Functionally, both jailbreak types are identical, the only difference being that a tethered jailbreak requires the Apple TV to be connected to a Mac/PC when first powering it on. Since the Apple TV doesn’t have a battery, and is rarely ever powered off, this usually only needs to be done once.

What’s new in the 5.0 Apple TV software? Should I update?

• New interface: – Fast, visual access to all content choices
• Movie purchases in iCloud: Support for buying movies on Apple TV and playing back purchased movies from iCloud
• Genius Recommendations: Recommendations for content on the iTunes Store based on previous rentals and purchases
• Screensaver photos: New National Geographic photos built-in for screensaver
• On-device sign-up: On-device sign up for content partners on Apple TV using your Apple ID

Updating to the new 5.0 software is not required, and all aTV Flash (black) features will continue to be supported on Apple TV versions 4.2 and later.

What about the ATV3, will this work?
