We would lie if we were to claim that the Apple TV is a perfect console, because that’s not true. While it does have its share of problems, no one can deny that it also has a lot of potential. The developers are working hard to improve it and bring it to current standards in terms of functionality and available content, but there are certain shortcomings about it that may tick off some people.

The App Store discovery doesn’t work as it should and give the fact that you cannot link applications on the web doesn’t help boost the ATV’s popularly either. However, in the past 2 weeks we went on a download spree and got to play a wide range of games on the ATV. If you’re an Apple TV gamer and want to know more about the best titles you should check out, then you’re in the right place. 1. Galaxy on Fire: Manticore Rising

Space shooters seem to be enjoying a lot of success on the Apple TV and Galaxy on Fire: Manticore Rising is certainly a title that deserves your attention. The game is fun to play, has great art and we believe that its shortcomings in the voiceover department can be overlooked. Why? Well, because the developers just gave us first look at how the Siri Remote may be used in the development of future Apple TV games.

In terms of control, it’s limited and your ship will automatically attack enemy ships. Using the motion controls is fun and exploring the vast space is an experience in itself given the great graphics. If you’re into space shooters and want to play a slick title that perfectly fits the genre, then you may want to give Manticore Rising a shot.

2. Oceanhorn

Do you love The Legend of Zelda and think it’s an amazing game? Well, we also think the same. Even more, we want to let you know about Oceanhorn which is a sort of Zelda clone. What we love about this title, aside from its resemblance to Zelda, are the top notch graphics. These actually give you a glimpse of the ATV’s capability as a gaming console for less derivative games. Overall, the game is really fun to play, yet it’s not a masterpiece by any means. However, it does prove that titles such as it may be a convincing leap to a bigger screen.

This series offers a comedic take on the life of Emily Dickinson, written by Alena Smith and starring Hailee Steinfeld in title role. Other actors in “Dickinson” include Jane Krakowski, Toby Huss, Adrian Blake Enscoe, Anna Baryshnikov, and Ella Hunt.

For All Mankind

In real-life, the Americans were the first to land on the moon. In this straight-to-series science fiction drama from Ronald D. Moore (“Battlestar Galactica”), it’s the Soviet Union that got there first. The series, which is also written by Moore, along with Fargo co-executive producers Matt Wolpert and Ben Nedivi, imagines a world where the global space race had never ended. And the space program remains the cultural centerpiece of America’s hopes and dreams.

Already renewed for a second season, “For All Mankind” launches with the first three episodes on Apple TV+ launch day. Additional episodes drop each Friday.

Ghostwriter

This children’s mystery television series is a reboot of a 1990s series by the same name. The series follows four young detectives who solve neighborhood crimes and mysteries. For assistance, they receive clues from an invisible being aptly named Ghostwriter and fictional character it releases into the world.

Helpsters

For children, “Helpsters” stars Cody and his team of vibrant monsters who love to solve problems. Whether it’s planning a party, climbing a mountain, or mastering a magic trick, the Helpsters can figure anything out—because everything starts with a plan. “Helpsters” is the first series between Apple and Sesame Workshop.

The Morning Show

“The Morning Show” is perhaps the most advertised new series on Apple TV+ and with good reason. The drama stars Academy Award winner Reese Witherspoon, along with Jennifer Aniston (“Friends”) and Steven Carell (“The Office”). The single-camera series has already been awarded a second season, which begins filming later this year. Apple’s launching three episodes of “The Morning Show” on the first day of Apple TV+ with new episodes rolling out each Friday for seven weeks.

The series also stars Billy Crudup, Mark Duplass, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Nestor Carbonell, Bel Powley, Karen Pittman, Desean K. Terry, and Janina Gavankar.

The Apple Music student subscription, which grants users access to Apple’s premium music streaming service at a fraction of normal monthly price, is about to get even better.

According to a social media post by actress Hailee Steinfeld, who stars in the Apple TV Plus-exclusive Dickinson, Apple Music subscribers on the service’s student plan will soon get Apple TV+ added to their account at no extra charge. While Apple has not made a formal announcement confirming the deal, additional reporting from 9to5Mac indicates that the offer is legit.

The caveat? You have to be a student (obviously), and one who can verify your student status through UNiDAYS. In other words, your alumni email address is unlikely to be enough to grant you the $5/month subscription. And the student subscription is capped at 48 months. After that, you’ll have to pay for Apple Music ($10/month) and Apple TV+ ($5/month) like every other normal person. Student accounts are also ineligible for family sharing, so you’ll only be able to use Apple’s streaming services on a single device at a time.

If you can’t take advantage of the student offer, there’s always the free one-year Apple TV+ trial Apple is offering customers who purchase a new Apple device.
