How to Watch Sling on Apple Devices

Accessing Sling TV on your Apple device is quick and easy. Download the Sling TV app from the App Store and launch it once the download is finished. That’s all there is to it.

Once you’ve logged in to your Sling account, it’s easy to customize the My TV tab and make it your one-stop shop for your favorite channels and shows. You can use the Search function to find what you’re looking for or browse through your options in the Guide. Take a look at On Now to see what’s airing live, or click Continue Watching to pick up where you left off with a program you already started.

Along with its new original content offerings, Apple is redesigning its TV application and opening it up to a whole bunch of new, non-Apple devices. The Xbox One isn’t included (yet), but there’s a cheeky workaround to bring the Apple TV app and all its benefits into your Xbox powered home entertainment center.

Products used in this guide

• The console: Xbox One S ($207 at Amazon)
• The Apple TV: Apple TV 4K 32GB ($179 at Apple)
• The right cable: AmazonBasics HDMI cable ($7 at Amazon)

How to use the Apple TV app on Xbox One

The caveat here is that you’re not actually putting the app on the Xbox One, instead making use of the HDMI input on the back of the console. That does mean that you need an Apple TV as well, or when it launches on the Amazon Fire TV platform, a Fire Stick would also do.

Currently you can only use the Apple TV though, so that’s what we’re using here.

1. Turn off the Apple TV and the Xbox One.
2. Connect one end of the HDMI cable to the Apple TV.
3. Connect the other end of the HDMI cable to the HDMI in port on the Xbox One.
4. Turn on the Xbox One.
5. Turn on the Apple TV.

Once you’ve connected everything up properly, open up the OneGuide app on your Xbox One. If it’s the first time you’ve used it there will be a standard setup procedure it runs through. Just follow along, but since you’re not actually connecting a cable box you won’t have to worry about TV guide data.

Since you can also set the OneGuide app to launch when you start up your console, you can go straight into it every time. For some added razzle dazzle, pair it up with an Amazon Echo to turn it on with voice commands.

Why you might want to do this

Why might you want to do this at all? For one it saves a HDMI connection on the back of your TV, which is always useful, and if you’re using the Xbox One a lot in your household having one device controlling everything is a good way to streamline.

But there’s also the fact that Apple’s redesign of the TV app should prove very useful when it comes along. It’s a great central hub, and as you watch content it will populate with recommendations, which makes getting at your favorite movies and shows much easier and elegant.

And if you’re outside the U.S., there’s a strong case to buy digital content from the iTunes Store. There’s no Movies Anywhere service and often you’ll find the best prices on iTunes, as well as free 4K HDR upgrades.

TV but from Apple

The Apple TV is no longer going to be mandatory to enjoy Apple’s video content, but it’s still a pretty compelling way to watch it anyway. With this cheeky workaround you can run it all through your Xbox One.

If you’ve been holding off on theApple TV 2 4.4.4 updatefor an untethered jailbreak, you can now update the device without worry. A new version of Seas0npass has been released to to untether the Apple TV’s unique iOS 4.4.4 build, the tool remains extremely easy to use and supports most of the 3rd party plugins, including last.fm, XBMC, RSS feeds, and more.

As you may have guessed, the latest version of Seasonpass uses the same untether from the newest redsn0w iOS 5.0.1 jailbreaks.

Despite many similarities, Apple continues to not label the Apple TV 2 build as iOS 5 for the device, and continues to release builds as version 4. Apple TV OS v 4.4 brought a variety of new features to the device, but most notable are AirPlay mirroring (fun with the iPhone) and the addition of several live video feeds and trailers, along with bug fixes.

Using Seas0nPass to Jailbreak Apple TV 4.4.4 Untethered

Before proceeding, update the Apple TV 2 to the latest 4.4.4 build, update iTunes, and download the appropriate Seas0npass version from above. You’ll also need the aluminum Apple TV remote and a microUSB cable to connect the Apple TV to the computer to perform the jailbreak.

• Launch Seas0npass and click the “Create IPSW” button
• Allow the custom IPSW to build and then connect the Apple TV to the computer via the USB cable, leaving the power cable disconnected
• Wait for the front light on the Apple TV to flash rapidly, then point the AppleTV remote at the device, following the onscreen instructions to place the ATV into DFU mode (hold both the MENU and PLAY/PAUSE buttons for 7 seconds)
• iTunes will now launch and begin restoring the Apple TV 2 to the custom jailbroken IPSW, the restore will be confirmed and the ATV2 is now jailbroken
• Verify the Apple TV 2 is jailbroken by looking for the red “FC” logo in the lower right corner of the screen, shown in the screenshot below

Enjoy the newly jailbroken Apple TV 2, it’s untethered meaning you don’t have to connect it to a computer to boot or do anything funky. If you run into any troubles, check out the support pages of Firecore, the makers of the Seas0npass app.

Update to Xcode 11, which includes the tvOS 13 SDK, and build your apps. Take advantage of frameworks and technologies such as multi-user support, Top Shelf extensions, TVUIKit, TVML, and Metal to create apps that look amazing on Apple TV. All libraries and frameworks used in tvOS apps must be built for tvOS, including any third-party libraries. Make sure your tvOS app doesn’t link against frameworks or libraries built for iOS.

Use On-Demand Resources

Your submission may contain up to 4GB in the main bundle and up to 20GB of On-Demand Resources. To enable smaller app bundles, faster downloads, and more app content for your tvOS app, use On-Demand Resources to request content hosted on the App Store that is separate from your main app bundle.

App Name

Searching by app name is a key way users find apps on the App Store for Apple TV. Search is incremental, so users see results each time they type a letter. Keep your tvOS app name short to help users quickly find what they’re looking for. If your tvOS app uses the same app ID as your iOS app, the apps will share one name. If your tvOS app uses a separate app ID, you’ll need to create a new name. Do not include the phrases Apple TV, tvOS, or ATV in your app name. Apple TV is a trademark and should always be written in English, even when it appears within text of another language.

App Icon

I have 2 apple tv’s 2 jailbroken and I’m going to sell one on ebay and just get an Apple TV 3. I sold my apple tv 3 on ebay a few weeks back, and i miss the clearer picture that my apple tv gave me.I rather have the 1080 P streaming. I could use xbmc on my Mac mini to.plus I have over 300 hd movies on my external hard drive for my itunes streaming.
