Mechanicsburg Presbyterian Church – Mechanicsburg, Pa. with Reverend Kathryn Z. Johnston

Mechanicsburg area gathered together to form a Church
On April 10, 1858, a group of like-minded Presbyterians of the Mechanicsburg area gathered together to form a Presbyterian Church in the town of Mechanicsburg because it was difficult for them to travel to their church, Silver Spring Presbyterian Church. Most of the charter members were former members of the Silver Spring Presbyterian Church. The charter of the new church was filed on August 27, 1858, and recorded on December 10, 1858. A church was erected on South Market Street that same year.

During the next 21 years the membership grew from the original 50 charter members to 300. Growth continued to be steady, and May 1945, a letter went out to members in an effort to raise $20,000 for the remodeling and enlarging of the church. Times and thoughts changed so the congregation decide to purchase a corn field at the edge of town. The present church building was dedicated to the service of the Lord on June 24, 1956.

Continued growth necessitated the addition of a Christian Education wing. This was dedicated on September 15, 1963. Membership had now reached over the 1,000 mark and the church was continually expanding its service to the community. During this time, in addition to the Senior Pastor, the church had several Assistant pastors and installed their first Associate pastor in 1972.

In the 1990’s the church facilities were renovated with a one million-dollar building and improvement program; and expanded with the purchase of the parish House/Youth Center, which is located at 303 East Keller Street.

Since the turn of the century, the Church has added an Associate Pastor of Youth and Young Adults, purchased a manse at 300 East Keller Street.

Today we are a congregation of 605 active members guided by a Senior Pastor/Head of Staff, an Associate Pastor for Youth and Young Adults, and 17 ruling elders.

Variety describes the series as “A World War II-era thriller,” which opens in Nazi-occupied Paris, when Coco Chanel’s (Binoche) reigns as the world’s famous fashion designer ends and Christian Dior (Mendelsohn) rises thanks to his ground-breaking creations.

“The New Look centers on the pivotal moment in the 20th century when fashion icons such as Christian Dior allowed Paris to lead the world back to life after the war. The saga will show portray Dior’s complex relationship with famous designer contemporaries and rival, for instance Coco Chanel, Balmain, Balenciaga, Givenchy, Pierre Cardin and Yves Saint Laurent, among others.”

Todd A. Kessler, whose credits include several hit series like Bloodline, Damages, and The Sopranos, is writing, directing and executive producing the show. There’s a lot of talent on board this series. I’m intrigued for sure.

The New Look is expected to start shooting in the French capital in the spring.

Both director Ben Stiller and actor Adam Scott are largely known for their comedic efforts, and while their new series Severance on Apple TV+ isn’t without hilarious encounters, it leans into a tone more akin to The Twilight Zone, exploring a concept so disturbing that you can’t help but laugh at the absurdity. Of course, other sequences are so unsettling that you’d be hard-pressed to find any levity in these moments, making for an ambitious blend of humor, horror, and drama. Stiller and Scott both opened up about what drew them to the series. Severance premieres on Apple TV+ on February 18th.

Given how many comedic projects Stiller has worked on over the years, one might think he intentionally has taken bigger chances with projects he directs, including the embrace of Severance‘s macabre subject matter, but Stiller noted that any project he takes isn’t a reaction to previous stories he’s brought to life.

“I’m not comparing it or trying to somehow do something intentionally, other than I want to explore stuff that I’m interested in, and for me as a director and an actor, which, for a long time, I did both at the same time, but I haven’t done that for a while,” Stiller shared with ComicBook.com. “So it’s really fun to explore different ideas and different tones both as a director and an actor. So if something’s good, that’s really what excites me about it … So I couldn’t tell you why, honestly, the last thing I did, Escape at Dannemora, why that was something that I gravitated towards. I just thought it would be a really cool story to tell, and I’d want to see it. And I felt the same thing with this one.”

In the series, “Mark Scout (Scott) leads a team at Lumon Industries, whose employees have undergone a severance procedure, which surgically divides their memories between their work and personal lives. This daring experiment in ‘work-life balance’ is called into question as Mark finds himself at the center of an unraveling mystery that will force him to confront the true nature of his work… and of himself.”

The nature of the story brought with it some inherent challenges for Scott, who not only had to bring a twisted narrative to life, but also was forced to play a man with a fractured and compartmentalized psyche, performing the version of Mark inside the company (“Innie” Mark) and outside the company (“Outie” Mark).

“It was really challenging and really interesting to jump in with Ben and (writer) Dan (Erickson) to try and figure out, because it’s different,” Scott recalled. “It’s not two characters. It’s definitely the same guy. It’s just, almost, two halves of the same guy. One who’s had 40-odd years of life experience and sorrow and joy and all of the things that go into that and of living a full life. And then the Innie version of Mark who’s, for all intents and purposes, two years old or something. But there are emotions and feelings that he carries with him into the Innie world. It’s just Innie Mark doesn’t know what those are or how to identify or name them. He just feels things, and it doesn’t have anything to do with his reality. And they don’t know anything about each other.”

He added, “The Outie version of Mark, all he wants to do is not feel, and let go of his memories, which is why he’s switching off for eight hours a day. And Innie Mark, when we find him, is content with where he is, and with this company. And both of them are content with where they are, with sitting still in life at the beginning of the story. People come in upset that apple cart a little bit, and make him reexamine where he is both on the inside and the outside.”

Severance premieres on Apple TV+ on February 18th.

BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD — A Catonsville teenager has landed a spot in a new show airing on Apple TV+. Elijah Jacob, 16, appears in “Swagger,” a drama based loosely on the early life of NBA star Kevin Durant of Maryland.

“It’s a show that’s about basketball, but it also represents more than basketball, so you’ll see a lot of race-related things and a lot of morals that are behind the show that people have to pay attention and actually watch when they see it,” Jacob told 11 News. “It’s super cool. I mean Apple is like one of the best. It was just a lot of fun — the cast, the crew and everything.”

Jacob plays the role of Earl, one of the kids on the basketball team.

“I think my character represents the kid who never really got his shot because he was overlooked and then he finally comes back and is better and just continues to advance,” Jacob said.

Jacob isn’t a stranger to TV though. He starred opposite David Schwimmer in AMC’s series Feed the Beast at age 10. He’s also eyeing a new role on a Disney pilot show.

“I just love being able to place someone else and being able to have a whole separate life and a whole separate environment, and just feeling the role and I just love it,” Jacob said.

Durant grew up in Prince George’s County and played basketball at National Christian Academy in Fort Washington, Maryland; Oak Hill Academy in Mouth of Wilson, Virginia; and Rockville’s Montrose Christian School. He played one season at the University of Texas before he was drafted by the Seattle SuperSonics in 2007.

It comes with its own Amazon App store which doesn’t include many of the popular apps found within Google Play.

Although we can’t install Google Play on our Firestick or Fire TV, we can install another App store that works great with the remote control.

Aptoide TV provides many of the popular apps that are normally found within Google Play.
