Apple reveals Apple TV Plus original series lineup with first footage – AppleTV 4 Jailbreak (appletv4jailbreak.com)
Apple officially unveiled its long-awaited streaming service today, Apple TV Plus. Along with Apple giving Apple TV a total revamp in order to integrate Hulu, Amazon Prime, and other streaming subscriptions directly onto the app, Apple TV Plus will include original programming, which the company began outsourcing more than a year in prior to the event.
Apple has an impressive slate of upcoming original projects, ranging from animated musical comedies to paranormal thrillers. Here’s a look at the first slate of original programming exclusively coming to Apple TV Plus this fall:
Series
Amazing Stories
A science-fiction-fantasy-horror anthology series based on the Steven Spielberg-helmed 1985 anthology of the same name. Spielberg will return to executive produce alongside Edward Kitsis, Adam Horowitz, Daryl Frank, and Justin Falvey. Kitsis and Horowitz are set to write as well. Apple ordered a 10-episode first season of Amazing Stories.
“[We are] resurrecting this 93-year-old brand and offering to multigenerational audiences a whole new batch,” said Spielberg.
Are You Sleeping
A drama series focusing on America’s obsession with true crime podcasts and the possible consequences of said obsession, Are You Sleeping stars Octavia Spencer as an investigative journalist turned true-crime podcast host. Aaron Paul plays a serial killer, with Lizzy Caplan playing twin sisters whose parents were brutally murdered.
Calls
Calls is an experimental French series that will tell stories through real-life audio and very few visuals. Very French.
Central Park
A musical animated comedy from Bob’s Burgers creator Loren Bouchard, Central Park will feature a family of caretakers who live and work in New York’s iconic park and end up saving it — and the world. Frozen star Josh Gad, who also serves as a producer the show, Leslie Odom Jr. (Hamilton), Tituss Burgess (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt), Kristen Bell (The Good Place), Stanley Tucci (The Hunger Games), Daveed Diggs (Hamilton), and Kathryn Hahn (Bad Moms) will headline the voice cast.
Defending Jacob
Defending Jacob is a crime series about a father dealing with his 14-year-old son’s murder charges. It will star Chris Evans (Captain America) and Michelle Dockery (Downton Abbey) as Jacob’s parents and Jaeden Martell (It) as Jacob.
Dickinson
A coming-of-age comedy about the life of Emily Dickinson, Dickinson stars Hailee Steinfeld (Bumblebee) as the 19th-century poet. Dickinson will have half-hour episodes. Also joining the cast are Jane Krakowski (30 Rock) as Emily Dickinson’s mother and Toby Huss (King of the Hill) as her father.
For All Mankind
A science-fiction series that centers around the big what-if of “what if we continued the space race,” For All Mankind stars Joel Kinnaman (House of Cards) and Michael Dorman (Patriot), along with Shantel VanSanten (One Tree Hill) and Wrenn Schmidt (Boardwalk Empire).
Foundation
Based on Isaac Asimov’s science-fiction saga of the same name, the Foundation television series will explore the thousand year story of the Foundation, a civilization based on the psychohistory philosophies of Hari Seldon.
Helpsters
Two shows from the Sesame Workshop will find a home on the Apple Streaming Service, one live-action and one animated. The live-action show is called Helpsters and will star puppets teaching preschoolers how to code….
