We would lie if we were to claim that the Apple TV is a perfect console, because that’s not true. While it does have its share of problems, no one can deny that it also has a lot of potential. Space shooters seem to be enjoying a lot of success on the Apple TV and Galaxy on Fire: Manticore Rising is certainly a title that deserves your attention. The game is fun to play, has great art and we believe that its shortcomings in the voiceover department can be overlooked. Why? Well, because the developers just gave us first look at how the Siri Remote may be used in the development of future Apple TV games.

In terms of control, it’s limited and your ship will automatically attack enemy ships. Using the motion controls is fun and exploring the vast space is an experience in itself given the great graphics. If you’re into space shooters and want to play a slick title that perfectly fits the genre, then you may want to give Manticore Rising a shot.

2. Oceanhorn

Do you love The Legend of Zelda and think it’s an amazing game? Well, we also think the same. Even more, we want to let you know about Oceanhorn which is a sort of Zelda clone. What we love about this title, aside from its resemblance to Zelda, are the top notch graphics. These actually give you a glimpse of the ATV’s capability as a gaming console for less derivative games. Overall, the game is really fun to play, yet it’s not a masterpiece by any means. However, it does prove that titles such as it may be a convincing leap to a bigger screen.

If you’re one of the many, many people who has yet to watch Apple TV+, now’s your chance to check it out. Beginning this week, Apple’s streaming service is offering a collection of original series and films for free, including Dickinson, The Elephant Queen, For All Mankind, and more. Viewers will be able to enjoy free content, as well as select Epix and HBO titles, for a limited time via the Apple TV app.

As of today, Friday, April 10, Apple has removed the paywall on certain Apple Originals for self-isolated users in more than 100 countries across the globe. While not every Apple TV+ title is included (looking at you, The Morning Show), the special promo does feature shows and movies from a wide variety of genres, from adult-oriented thrillers to family-friendly cartoons. With so many options to choose from, Apple customers should have no problem filling their time as they remain in self-quarantine.

To find games for your watch, you can search for “games” in the watch’s App Store, which you can find by pressing the Digital Crown to get to the app screen. The App Store has the same appearance as on the iPhone – a stylized “A.”

How to activate Apple TV without Passport

• When you are on your Apple TV and receive a message to activate, take note of the activation code. 
• On your computer, tablet, or phone, open a web browser such as Chrome, Firefox, or Safari.
• Type http://www.pbs.org/activate in the address bar. 
• Type your activation code in the textbox provided.
• Click Continue
• Your Apple TV has been activated and you can return to your Apple TV to begin watching PBS videos.

How to activate Apple TV with Passport 

• When you have the PBS app open on your Apple TV, click Settings located at the top of the screen.

• Click Deactivate located at the bottom of the screen. If you have an Apple TV 4, click Change Account > Log Out.

• A screen indicating the app needs to be activated appears. 

• Activation instructions are displayed on the screen along with a 7-character activation code.

• Go to your computer and open a browser such as Chrome, Firefox, or Safari.
• In the address bar, type http://pbs.org/activate.  
• Enter the seven-character activation code in the textbox provided. This is NOT your Passport activation code.
• Click Continue.

• You are taken to a new page asking you to sign in with a Google, Facebook, or PBS account. 
• Choose the same account you used when you activated Passport. If you sign in with a different email address, you will not be signed in with your Passport account and will be unable to watch Passport videos.

• Return to your Apple TV. It has been automatically updated and you can begin watching Passport videos.

How to create a PBS account

Apple, as expected, provided a preview of iOS 14 at at WWDC20, this year’s online-streaming version of its annual Worldwide Developers Conference — which includes new tools for navigating the iPhone home screen and enhanced privacy.

The iOS 14 operating system will be released this fall as a free software update for iPhone 6s and later. It features redesigned “widgets” that can be accessed directly on the home screen (above left) to provide expanded access and information. Users also have the option to let Apple devices organize their apps with App Library (above right), which automatically groups apps not included on one of their home screens into categories.

It’s “the biggest update we’ve ever made to the home screen,” said Craig Federighi, Apple’s SVP of software engineering.

In another expected announcement, Apple confirmed that it is moving away from Intel processors in Macs to its own internally developed silicon. Apple CEO Tim Cook called it “a huge leap forward for the Mac,” and that the company having its own in-house silicon design team is “a game-changer.”

Apple plans to ship the first Mac with Apple silicon by the end of 2020 and complete the transition in about two years, although Cook noted Apple will continue to support and release new versions of macOS for Intel-based Macs “for years to come.”

If you want to watch live TV on your Apple TV—cable or antenna—it’s relatively easy to set up and get going.

The great thing about streaming set-top boxes is that almost everything you need for watching content is available in one place…except for live television. You can download a network’s respective app to watch a live stream of their channel, but you usually need a cable subscription in order to do that, which negates the whole point of cord cutting in the first place.

Thanks to the Apple TV and an app called Channels, however, you can get Live TV—complete with a cable-esque episode guide—right in the same interface as all your streaming apps.

What You Need

For this process, you’ll need an HDHomerun (a device we’ve covered before in the past) along with a TV antenna (for free over-the-air TV from networks like NBC, ABC, CBS, etc.) or your cable box (which will offer you many more channels like ESPN, TBS, and so on).

Of course, you can watch live TV without the HDHomerun—using your antenna or cable provider—but it requires constantly switching between inputs on your TV every time you want to watch television. If you want to hook it into the Apple TV, you’ll need the HDHomerun.

The HDHomerun is an external TV tuner that connects to your home network. From there, you can watch live television from any device in your house, so long as it’s connected to the network and the device has an app that can pick up live TV from a tuner.

There are three versions of the HDHomerun: the Connect ($110), Extend ($180), and Prime ($135). The Prime supports cable boxes (and only cable boxes), while the other two are designed for over-the-air TV antennae.

The Connect and Extend are very similar, except the Connect model requires an 802.11ac router in order to watch live TV over Wi-Fi, while the Extend only requires an 802.11n router. Most newer routers today use 802.11ac anyway, so feel free to go with the Connect if your router supports 802.11ac. It’s cheaper than the Extend, which is nice (although the Extend comes with a newer, fanless design).

Step One: Hook Up Your HDHomerun

To install the HDHomerun, you’ll need the device, its power cord, an ethernet cable (included), and a TV antenna or cable box. I’m using the Mohu Leaf antenna for this guide.

NOTE: If you have cable, you’ll almost certainly need to contact your cable provider and have them install a CableCARD in your HDHomerun as well, since the vast majority of cable channels are encrypted.

Once you have everything you need, just plug the HDHomerun into power, connect the TV antenna or cable box to the device’s coaxial jack, and use the ethernet cable to connect the HDHomerun to an empty ethernet port on your router. From there, the device will automatically boot up and be ready to go.

Minecraft: Apple TV Edition was the version of Bedrock Edition designed to run on the Apple TV. It was announced on October 27, 2016, officially released on December 19, 2016, alongside Fire TV Edition, and discontinued on September 24, 2018.[2][3] The release of the Apple TV Edition coincided with the Ender Update. It was the last Bedrock Edition to have an “Edition” subtitle as it did not receive the Better Together Update. It was previously unclear if or when the Apple TV Edition would be updated, due to a bug.[4][5] The version was officially discontinued with a message provided via the in-game patch notes and removed from the Apple TV Store on September 24, 2018.[6]

The Apple TV Edition did not include a beta edition. It was announced and released at the same time.

For a limited time[more information needed], it came with seven pieces of DLC (Holiday 2015, Town Folk, and City Folk skin packs, along with the Plastic, Natural, Cartoon, and Festive 2016 mash-ups). Apple TV Edition moved from individual pieces of DLC to content in the Minecraft Marketplace. While players could no longer purchase Minecoins as of September 24, 2018, they could continue to use remaining Minecoins to purchase and use content in the Marketplace.

Discontinuation[edit]

On September 24, 2018, Apple TV Edition was removed from the Apple TV store and the following message was broadcasted via the in-game patch notes. The patch notes were localized in all supported languages with local numbers for Apple Support included for each region/country.
