These are instructions on how to jailbreak the Apple TV 4 using Pangu on tvOS 9.0 – 9.0.1.

To follow this tutorial you will need to have access to a Mac with Xcode and have a USB Type-C cable. We recommend you disable Automatic Software Updates on your Apple TV before beginning.

Step One
Download the Pangu9 for ATV archive from here.

Step Two
Double click the downloaded archive to extract it.

Step Three
Launch Xcode from your dock and click Create a new Xcode project

Step Four
Select Application from the tvOS section on the left then choose Single View Application and click Next

Step Five
Enter AppleTVJailbreak as the product name, your name under Organization Name, and com.YourName as the Organization Identifier. Then click Next.

Step Six
Choose a folder to save the Xcode project in then click Create.

Step Seven
Your new Xcode project will open.

Connect your Apple TV to your computer using a USB Type C cable and make sure it’s powered on. Wait for Xcode to finish processing symbol files.

Change the Deployment Target to 9.0

Change the selected build device to the Apple TV. You do this by clicking the button at the top left to the right of the play button.

Click the Fix issue button to create a provisioning profile for the device.

You will be asked add an Apple ID, click Add.

Sign in with your Apple ID.

Click Fix Issue once more and select your account from the list of accounts.

Apple will automatically fix your code signing issues.

We knew virtually everything there was to know about the service ahead of its launch (although Apple took its sweet time doling out all of the relevant details), but now that Apple TV+ has officially launched, we have also gotten a look at the terms and conditions, which you’re going to want to read before you start your free trial:

• Offer is available for a limited time only.
• Offer cannot be combined with other free trials or offers for Apple TV+. Only one offer per Family, regardless of number of devices purchased. You can share your 1 year free Apple TV+ with up to 5 other family members via Family Sharing.
• Redeem your 1 year free in the Apple TV app starting November 1, 2019. Make sure your eligible device is running the latest iOS, iPadOS, tvOS, or macOS.
• Offer must be claimed in the Apple TV app within 3 months after first setting up your new device. To see the offer appear, you will need to sign in with your Apple ID on your new device. If you’ve purchased your new device before the launch of Apple TV+ on November 1, you will have 3 months starting November 1 to redeem.
• Upon claiming the offer, you commit to a $4.99/month subscription that starts immediately after the 1 year free and automatically renews until cancelled. You can cancel at any time in Settings at least a day before each renewal date. The most important condition, and one that’s going to necessitate setting a reminder, is the cancellation policy. As soon as you cancel your free trial (providing you decide Apple TV+ isn’t worth $5 per month), you and anyone else on your Family Sharing plan will lose access to the service. This has become the norm for Apple recently, despite the fact that countless other services, including Amazon Prime, ESPN+, Spotify, PlayStation Plus, and Xbox Live all allow you to cancel your trial at any time and retain access until the trial’s original end date.

Do you want to jailbreak Apple TV 4, 3, 2 or 1 on tvOS 10.1 or 10.0? The Apple TV allows you to do many things, like play video, watch movies or listen to music from your iPad, iPhone or via AirPlay, and the dedicated App Store of Apple TV allows you to download several games and apps – well at least the 4th gen Apple TV. The first three versions only offer media playback.

But a jailbroken Apple TV is a different beast. It can install new services and apps that are far more interesting than what you get natively.

To Jailbreak an Apple TV or Not?

There are several benefits of jailbreaking an old Apple TV and fewer drawbacks. Here are some software offerings that can be installed on the old system.

• aTV Flash (black) / FireCore – This user-friendly software allows playback of file types like .mkv, and also allows users to install unofficial apps like Last.fm and browse the web.
• Kodi (known as XMBC previously) – This is an entertainment hub that enables users to play most videos, podcasts, and music. It also activates PVR functionality so that live television can be watched and recorded.

Therefore, it’s a great idea to jailbreak old Apple TV, especially if you have had one that has not been used for a while.

Is It Possible To Jailbreak Apple TV?

The good news is that Apple TV can be easily jailbroken, as long as the right model of Apple TV is with you.

4 generations have been released over a decade. Apple TV 1, 2, 3 and 4 – the latest one has new features, a redesigned operating system, and an Apple Store.

Apple TV 4 and Apple TV 2 can be easily jailbroken with the right software. The first gen Apple TV can be jailbroken using Rowmote.

How to Jailbreak Apple TV 3

If you’re an owner of Apple TV 3, it can’t be jailbroken at this point, regardless of what you see on the internet. A number of scams on the web claim that they can jailbreak a third-generation Apple TV, but what they’re really good at is taking away your money.

Even if there are legitimate services, it is important to be careful. As an example, let’s consider this Apple TV jailbreaking tool – Snow3rd. We have tried several times to verify if this is legit or not, but were unsuccessful because it is going to work only if your Apple TV 3 isn’t above tvOS 5.0.3, and it doesn’t always work.

So regardless of the Apple TV jailbreaking fluff on the internet, there is no way to jailbreak Apple TV 3.

There are so many categories that you’re bound to find a type of music you’re familiar with, whether that’s the top hits of the 1990s or smooth jazz. I’ve admittedly spent well over an hour playing this game testing my music skills, and with the Songpop Party iOS remote that enables multiplayer mode, so will your friends and family.

So many Apple reviews start the same: the design hasn’t changed, but the insides have. That’s the same with the Apple TV 4K, which takes on the same form factor and design as the previous Apple TV. “If it ain’t broke then why fix it?” as the saying goes. 

Visually speaking, the black box of Apple TV 4K isn’t especially inspiring – but as with so much under-the-telly AV kit, it’s happy to be hidden away, out of sight.

Even when not in view, the included small touch-sensitive remote is easy to use, if you don’t want to use your phone or tablet to control the box.

That remote is easy to use, features all the relevant buttons and a touch sensitive panel on the top for gesture controlling your way through the Apple TV menu system. There’s a small cosmetic change compared to the older model – a white circle around the menu button and this circle is supposed to act as a focus for when in lower lighting conditions. Of course, design is only one side of the story, and here Apple hasn’t held back in giving the Apple TV enough power to get things done. The Apple TV 4K uses the powerful A10 Fusion chip (as found in the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus) and for those interested, that doubles the performance and packs in four times the graphical capabilities compared to the outgoing Apple TV this model replaces. 

That power is mostly used to deliver a set-top box that is capable of delivering 4K HDR/Dolby Vision quality movies, although it’s fair to say games and apps load smoothly too.
