Is this an Apple Pay scam?

I got this text today…

from this number…. +1 (205) 581-6***

Important:  $171.30 was charged to your Apple ID via Apple Pay. Contact Apple Support if this wasn’t you (877) 683-1***

I called the 877 number and a foreign accent said… ‘welcome to customer service’. I asked who’s customer service? The person replied… “apple customer service”. I said, I must have the wrong number, then he said, ‘which customer service are you looking for?’ I didn’t answer… he said something to someone else, and I heard a lot of other operators… yacking… I hung up.

Is this a scam?

Apple account login

Re: ” How can I be able to login to my apple account using my Apple ID”

Seems you would be able to log-in online:

Apple ID Log-in

(NB: A verification code is generally sent to your trusted device, or eMailed, to check that you are you.)

Best Buy in Los Angeles, CA

Fast, friendly and knowledgeable staff. Went in for a specific need in a memory card and was told about all the specs of the choices that fit my parameters!

Jackie in the Television Department was amazing! Went in looking for a 4K TV.. was going for a $300 TV since was thinking budget.. Jackie explained in deep detail about TVs and Specs. She was very informative, ending up leaving with a Sony TV and Sony Surround Sound. Amazing Customer Service and Great Knowledge! Thank you

I brought in some used batteries and printer cartridges for recycling and asked the young man at the desk in front where to drop them off. He pointed to the customer service area where there was a long line. I started to go there, then went back to him to ask if he could just tell me what their policy was so I didn’t have to wait in line only to be told they don’t accept them. He offered not even the information I now realize is available online and rudely told me to just go wait in the line, so I left. His manner was impatient and surly and unhelpful. I didn’t get his name but he’s young and tall and beefy, with lots of curly dark hair, and he was there around 1 pm today, Wednesday. He is not the person you want greeting customers as they enter your store. I tried to call and speak to a manager but was unable to get through; the computer voice told me to go to the website.

What is the correct usage of “deems fit” phrase?

As Mick mentions in his comment, “to deem fit” is a little old-fashioned but not, I think, enough that you shouldn’t learn how to use the idiom. I wouldn’t call it “Victorian” English, as it’s a phrase that sees regular use even today.

This answer by Tom B is the best rephrase of your sentence.

Do whatever you deem fit

Other examples:

Pick whichever person you deem fit for the job.

My path is mine to walk as I deem fit.

This plan of creating an electoral college to select the president was expected to secure the choice by the best citizens of each state, in a tranquil and deliberate way, of the man whom they in their unfettered discretion should deem fittest to be the chief magistrate of the Union.

“Deem” is itself a verb meaning “to judge” or “to consider (in a specified way)”. You can, conceivably, deem anything but it’s a word that is more commonly associated with words like “necessary” or “proper”, or used alone:

It’s clever enough, but the question is whether future generations will deem it “art”.

Jackson spoke, relating all he deemed pertinent.

I am trying to make a point about the fuzzy edges of what has been deemed a “disease”.

Word choice – Way of

Check out this Ngram.

When using “the best way”, that phrase is most often followed by an infinitive:

The best way to eat pizza is by starting at the point.
The best way to prepare a roast is to cook it slowly.
The best way to hit a baseball is to practice – a lot.
The best way to ruin a first date is by talking about yourself too much.
The best way to use “the best way” is to follow it with an infinitive.

However, this is not the only way to use the phrase; “the best way” can also be followed by of with a gerund:

The best way of increasing morale in the workplace is to care about the workers.
The best way of preventing a heart attack is to both exercise regularly and eat well.

A third pattern found in the Ngram results is to use “the best way” followed by for with a noun or pronoun:

The best way for teachers to evaluate their students is by using oral exams.
The best way for us to solve this problem is to work together.

So, any of these will work in your case:

The best way to live happily is to get rid of stress.
The best way of living happily is to get rid of stress.
The best way for you to live happily is to get rid of stress.

But there are other ways to say the same thing; for example, I can use “the best way is” (which is also listed on the Ngram):

When it comes to living happily, the best way is to get rid of stress.

word choice

Your question centers around

best-seller (noun)
best-selling (adjective)

So to describe an author’s book

He has a best-seller.
He has a best-selling book.

are both correct.

“Best-seller book” would not be correct, however

His book which is a best-seller.

is correct.

CarPlay not reading WhatsApp messages

Yesterday I noticed that CarPlay wasn’t reading out my WhatsApp messages.

The notification pops up on screen, and when I tap it, WhatsApp opens and then it just says ‘would you like to reply?’ It’s like CarPlay thinks it’s read out the message but it hasn’t. I can’t see the name of the person the message is from, but everything else appears normal. And I can reply successfully. I can also send messages successfully. It’s just the reading out of incoming messages that doesn’t work.

I’ve updated the WhatsApp app to the latest version – although I only did this after it stopped working. And I’m running the latest version of iOS.

I’ve also checked the ‘announcement’ settings for WhatsApp and CarPlay and they look fine.

Any help would be appreciated…

definite article

Best v the best

“You are the best at tennis” v “You are best at tennis”

These mean the same, although both of them have a range of meanings. They could mean that you’re better at tennis than other people in the room, or on the team, or at your school, or in the world. Alternatively, they could mean that you’re better at tennis than at any of the other sports you play – without specifying that you’re better at tennis than other people.

“You are the best” v “You are best”

If the statement was made in the context of a particular discussion (for example, about tennis), the two would have the same meaning (and the same range of meanings that we saw in the previous examples).

However, “You’re the best!” as a complete sentence can also be an expression of gratitude, meaning “You’re awesome!” – whereas “You’re best” rarely if ever has this meaning.

“Choose the book you like the best.” “Choose the book you like best.”

These mean the same.

“Choose the book you like the most.” “Choose the book you like most”.

These mean the same.

“She walks most gracefully.” v “She walks the most gracefully.”

“She walks the most gracefully” usually means that she walks more gracefully than other people (although which particular group of other people is ambiguous or dependent on context, as with the tennis example). Alternatively, it could mean that she walks more gracefully than she performs other activities – this is unusual, but would be clear from the context.

“She walks most gracefully” could be a synonym for “She walks very gracefully”. But “she walks most gracefully” could also be used to mean “she walks the most gracefully”. So, the version without the “the” carries both meanings (or sets of meanings).
