Apple’s virtual Worldwide Developers Conference on Monday was, itself, a sign of the times.

Like all conferences in the coronavirus era, the WWDC keynote morphed into an online-only affair with lone speakers presenting in socially distant productions, as the end credits claimed. But the announcements were no less jam-packed. The moves extend across the Apple universe, bringing changes to the individual software platforms for the iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Apple TV and Mac computers, while also tying them closer together.

The list of updates both on the surface and under-the-hood, look rather extensive: Redesigned widgets in different sizes will be able to sit on homescreens and in the Mac’s notifications area. Siri and call notifications are shrinking down, taking up less screen space. Picture-in-picture video, which has been available on the iPad, heads to iPhones. And users get new powers of organization to clear the app and folder clutter.

There are also new mechanics — among the most intriguing of which are App Clips, a small set of features that app-makers can make directly accessible based on context.

“An App Clip is a small part of an app. It’s lightning fast and easy to discover, so you can quickly get what you need, right when you need it,” explained Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of software engineering. “Everything about App Clips is designed for speed.”

App Clips show up as a card that pops up on screen, allowing users to take actions immediately — like paying for a purchase with Apple Pay — even if they don’t have the full app installed on their devices.

The card, or “clip,” can pop up when the user taps a phone to a compatible terminal and friends can send them to one another. In the video’s example, a contact messaged an App Clip from Etsy to a product, making it easy for the recipient to open and buy it. The clip immediately vanishes when done. Another example tied into Apple Maps, letting users find and interact with local businesses.

Integration with “Sign in with Apple” logins is built-in, so interactions may be more than just transactional, depending on what developers want to include, such as booking appointments. That encourages brands and businesses to adopt the Apple sign-in feature to make the most out of these clips.

Recently used App Clips are also housed in a new app library, and they can be launched from the web, through a text from friends or via QR codes.

App Clips are effectively Apple’s new way of approaching discovery. For brands, the promise is that individual app downloads are no longer a barrier to potential new business — that is, as long as they support the other facets of the Apple ecosystem.

While the iPhone is Apple’s bread and butter product, is not the only device produced by the company. We’ve got the Mac (in desktop and laptop variations), the complete range of tablets (the iPad line, which is arguably the best tablet range on the market), the music device (HomePod), the wearable (Apple Watch), and the Apple TV. In today’s article, we are going to cover data extraction from Apple TV and Apple Watch. They do contain tons of valuable data, and are often the only source of evidence.

Acquisition Methods

Generally speaking, there are only three data extraction methods available for the range of Apple devices. Logical extraction (the backup, media files, shared files, crash logs and diagnostic logs) is the most straightforward, albeit somewhat limited method. File system acquisition, while being available for some specific devices and OS versions is the most difficult yet the most advanced method. Cloud acquisition with access to information backed up or synced from all devices sharing the same Apple ID is great, but requires the correct login credentials. Each of these methods produces a different set of data that partly overlap, so we recommend using all of them if you can. Speaking of Apple Watch and Apple TV, the same rules apply.

Apple TV

There are two versions of Apple TV we’ll be discussing here: the Apple TV 4 (recently rebranded Apple TV HD) and Apple TV 4K, the company’s latest effort. From our standpoint, the major difference between the two device is the USB port. While the Apple TV 4 (Apple TV HD) offers a USB Type-C port on the back, the newer Apple TV 4K lacks USB connectivity. The lack of USB connectivity on the newer device requires using specific hardware (a macOS-based PC or laptop) and software (Xcode) to connect.

Apple TV acquisition is somewhat similar to the iPhone except just one thing: there is no backup service on Apple TV. This in turn means that logical acquisition is limited to extracting media files acquisition via the afc protocol. This could be quite a lot as most Apple TV units have iCloud Photos enabled.

There are also good news. First, the Apple TV cannot be protected with a passcode, and there is no need to pair it with a computer in order to extract data. Second, jailbreaks exist for many versions of tvOS, meaning you can capture an image of the file system and decrypt the keychain.

Before you install a jailbreak, make sure to use other such as extracting media files (Photos.sqlite can be pretty useful, as it may contain some information on files that are NOT on that Apple TV):What about the Apple TV jailbreak? In this article, we’re offering a running list of Apple original TV shows and series that are likely to arrive in the coming years. As more details emerge, we’ll update this post.

It doesn’t yet have a video streaming service like Hulu or Netflix. Nonetheless, Apple plans to introduce a significant number of original TV programs in the coming years. While it’s not yet known how the iPhone maker plans on distributing these titles (most likely through a new subscription service), details about the shows have finally started to leak in recent months.

How we got here

In June 2017, Apple hired Jamie Erlicht and Zach Van Amburg, formerly of Sony Pictures Television, as the co-leaders of the company’s new worldwide video unit. In November 2017, the company tipped its hand that it was branching out into original scripted programming when it announced it had signed Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon for a new drama.

In the following months, news surfaced that Apple could spend around $4.2 billion on original programming by 2022. The content is expected to begin airing between March and the summer of 2019.

Currently Available Apple original TV shows

Apple has only released two original TV shows and series to date, “Carpool Karaoke: The Series” and “Planet of the Apps.” While the former has found some success, the latter was canceled after just one season.

“Carpool Karaoke: The Series”

First introduced on Aug. 9, 2017, the series grew out of a popular recurring segment by the same name on “The Late Late Show with James Corden.” Also starring Corden, “Carpool Karaoke: The Series” pairs various celebrities with each other as they belt out fan-friendly songs.

Status: Renewed for season 2; the first season included 21 episodes, all available through the TV app and Apple TV.

“Planet of the Apps”

First launched in June 2017, “Planet of the Apps” featured Jessica Alba, Gwyneth Paltrow, Will.iam, and Gary Vaynerchuk, as judges who listened to pitches from would-be app developers. Featuring 10 episodes, the series was officially canceled in June. Around the same time, Vaynerchuk had some unkind words to say about Apple, noting the company “did everything wrong” in promoting the series.

Status: “Planet of the Apps” became the first Apple series canceled. Season 1 episodes are available to stream through the TV app.

“Amazing Stories”

One of the first Apple programs announced, “Amazing Stories” is based on the 1980s Steven Spielberg anthology series by the same name. Once led by show-runner Bryan Fuller, the series is now being developed by Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz. (10 episodes have been ordered.)

What’s the best IPTV app for the Apple TV 4? It needs to have M3U support and would be great to have EPG support. I currently have Perfect Player for Amazon TV, but would like to streamline things a bit.

When you say clunky, do you mean slow/lagging? I tried IPTV Streamer and it was nice but seemed to lag a bit. Especially on my iPad.

No, meaning that you sometimes have to remove the m3u link from the list if the provider has changed the channel line-up. But, I keep my mu3 list in the notes app on my iPhone so re-adding it is very quick and easy.

I recommend IP Television (you can find it like IPTV) and GSE pro. Both have support for EPG and M3U lists.

I’m using URL player for streaming m3u8 streams. Unfortunately the interface is a bit lacking. Anyone can recommend an Apple TV app for these streams? I’m not talking about m3u playlists. Just m3u8 streams found online

Apple lifted the veil on iOS 14 during its virtual Worldwide Developers Conference keynote earlier this week, and, as expected, the upcoming mobile software update is more focused on improvements than additions. Widgets make the home screen more interactive and informative, the new App Library makes it easier to find the app you’re looking for, Picture in Picture enhances multitasking, and pinned conversations simplify the Messages app.

But iOS 14 has plenty of features that Apple didn’t have time to discuss during its keynote and has yet to highlight on its website, some of which are now being discovered by iPhone users that have downloaded the developer beta. For now, we wanted to highlight one that affects another Apple product, as iOS 14 brings Optimized Battery Charging to AirPods after Apple introduced the feature on the iPhone with the release of iOS 13.

Here’s how Apple describes Optimized Battery Charging for the iPhone on its website:

Optimized Battery Charging is designed to reduce the wear on your battery and improve its lifespan by reducing the time your iPhone spends fully charged. When the feature is enabled, your iPhone will delay charging past 80% in certain situations. Your iPhone uses on-device machine learning to learn your daily charging routine so that Optimized Battery Charging activates only when your iPhone predicts it will be connected to a charger for an extended period of time. The algorithm aims to ensure that your iPhone is still fully charged when unplugged.

By bringing this feature to AirPods, iOS 14 could theoretically extend the life of your wireless headphones, ensuring that the lithium ion battery isn’t topped off too quickly and then left sitting on the charger at full charge for an extended period of time. Apple added a similar feature to macOS in macOS Catalina 10.15.5.

A feature that charges your AirPods battery slightly slower might not be the flashiest addition of iOS 14, but if your AirPods ends up lasting you a few weeks or months longer, this might end up being one of your favorite elements of the update. Beyond the Optimized Battery Charging, Apple is also bringing spatial audio to AirPods Pro, new battery notifications to let you know when your AirPods need to be charged, the ability to automatically switch between audio sources, and the option to connect two sets of AirPods to an Apple TV 4K.
