After launching AltServer v1.4.7 this week with support for Apple’s new iOS & iPadOS 15.1 and macOS 12 Monterey mobile and desktop operating systems, project developer Riley Testut just this evening released an update for AltStore – the iOS & iPadOS app that complements AltServer to create a seamless app side-loading experience for iPhone and iPad users.
The latest version of AltStore, dubbed version 1.4.8, is now available to all users with official support for the updated unc0ver jailbreak with support for the Fugu14 untether. More specifically, AltStore will walk users through the process of installing both the unc0ver jailbreak app and the Fugu14 untether so that those with compatible devices can take full advantage of the untethered jailbreak experience.
In the screenshot examples below, you can see what that process would look like. More specifically, AltStore prompts the user to install the Fugu14 untether, which means that the unc0ver jailbreak would become untethered and wouldn’t expire, even after 7 days or after rebooting the device.
The user gets to choose between installing the untethered jailbreak or continuing without the untether. If they select the untethered jailbreak option, then AltStore will perform a few additional steps, such as patching the unc0ver placeholder and installing the unc0ver placeholder.
As noted in our official update post for unc0ver v7.0.1 and the revised version of the Fugu14 untether with stability enhancements, the untether is currently only intended for arm64e devices (iPhone XS and newer) running iOS or iPadOS 14.3-14.5.1.
The unc0ver jailbreak can still be used in a semi-untethered fashion on other devices running iOS or iPadOS 11.0-14.3, however Fugu14 won’t be able to untether those handsets until it receives an update with support for arm64 devices and additional versions of iOS & iPadOS. There’s currently no ETA for when that might happen, but jailbreak developers are already looking into the possibility.
Additionally, it should be noted that the unc0ver jailbreak can’t be used to jailbreak arm64 devices (iPhone X and older) running iOS 14.4-14.5.1. The checkra1n jailbreak, on the other hand, can. So it should be interesting to see whether the checkra1n team plans to add support for the Fugu14 untether in an upcoming update or not.
Since AltStore and AltServer are two different apps, it’s worth mentioning that today’s update (v1.4.8) is only for the AltStore app for iPhone and iPad. The latest version of the AltServer application for macOS and Windows continues to be v1.4.7 at the time of this writing.

Avec l’arrivée du support de la 4K dans iTunes, tout porte à croire qu’une nouvelle Apple TV se profile enfin à l’horizon donnant plus de poids aux rumeurs qui ont commencé à circuler il y a quelques mois sur la toile…
En effet, lorsque l’Apple TV 4 est sortie, la déception a été grande pour de nombreux fans de ne pas pouvoir bénéficier du support de la 4K contrairement à ce que proposaient les derniers boitiers concurrents d’Amazon et de Roku sortis de manière concomitante, ou le ChromeCast 4K de Google sorti plus récemment. À l’heure où on ne vend quasiment plus que des TV 4K et où les contenus disponibles dans cette définition se multiplient, il est temps pour Apple de franchir le Rubicon de la 4K.
Des utilisateurs qui ont passé en revue leur liste d’achats sur iTunes ont constaté que certains films récents tels que Passengers ou Les Animaux fantastiques indiquent qu’ils sont en version « 4K, HDR » aussi bien à l’achat qu’à la location. Pourtant, jusqu’à présent, les fichiers sont simplement téléchargés en haute définition standard.
Autant d’indices qui prouvent que l’intégration de la 4K au niveau des contenus proposés par iTunes est en cours… Et on imagine mal Apple proposer des films et série en 4K sans que son boitier pour télévision ne puisse les lire, ce serait un comble. La dernière mise à jour de la Box pommée date de près de 2 ans et son hardware ne permet techniquement pas de passer à la 4K, une nouvelle mouture de tvOS ne suffirait pas.
Les bruits de couloirs, qui faisaient état de cette mise à jour « J105 » programmée il y a quelques mois, ne prévoyaient justement pas grand-chose d’autre que l’ajout du support de la 4K pour l’Apple TV 5. Pour le reste il était question de « couleurs plus vives », ce qui impliquerait aussi le support du HDR. Les téléviseurs compatibles peuvent afficher des images avec un contraste amélioré et des couleurs plus vibrantes que jamais.
Sans une mise à jour de Apple TV, seuls deux produits du catalogue de produits d’Apple peuvent afficher correctement les contenus en 4K : l’iMac de 21,5 pouces avec l’affichage Retina 4K et l’iMac de 27 pouces avec l’affichage Retina 5K. Lancé à l’automne 2015, l’Apple TV 4 pourrait bien céder sa place cette année à l’Apple TV 5. Les développeurs derrière les jeux Phoenix HD et Phoenix II, ont en effet trouvé dans les logs de l’app Phoenix HD des traces d’un appareil identifié par la référence « AppleTV6,2 », lequel tournait sous le firmware «tvOS 11.0 ».
Il ne fait quasiment aucun doute qu’Apple prépare bel et bien un nouveau boîtier, d’autant que l’IP associé aux logs provenait du siège d’Apple à Cupertino. De plus, le géant californien se montre plus que jamais intéressé pour révolutionner la télévision dans diverses déclarations.
Rappelons également que Bloomberg a expliquait qu’Apple testait déjà depuis un moment une nouvelle Apple TV capable de diffuser en continu vidéo 4K haute résolution, qui a été baptisée « J105 ». Preuve supplémentaire, l’Apple TV actuel porte l’identifiant « AppleTV5,3 », alors que la référence « Apple TV6,2 » ne correspond à aucun modèle commercialisé.
Tout cela permet d’avoir la quasi certitude que la firme californienne s’apprête à lever le voile, dans les prochains mois, sur une Apple TV revisité et avec de nouvelles fonctionnalités dont la 4K qui ne serait pas un luxe.
