Just a week ago, we reported about a new jailbreak Unc0ver that would even work against the iOS 13.5. However, Apple was quick to address this matter. Now, they have released iOS 13.5.1 and other OS updates fixing the Unc0ver jailbreak vulnerability.

Apple iOS 13.5.1 Fixes Unc0ver Jailbreak Vulnerability

A week after the Unc0ver jailbreak surfaced online, Apple released iOS 13.5.1 addressing the vulnerability.

Wile Unc0ver boasted to successfully jailbreak all recent devices until iOS 13.5, it seems Apple has now halted its success.

Unc0ver jailbreak exploited a zero-day vulnerability in the operating system. Yet, with the recent update iOS 13.5.1 and iPadOS 13.5.1, Apple has clearly mentioned fixing the flaw. Describing the flaw CVE-2020-9859, Apple stated in its advisory,

 An application may be able to execute arbitrary code with kernel privileges.
A memory consumption issue was addressed with improved memory handling.

This update is available for all iPhones after iPhone 6s, iPad Air 2 and later, iPad mini 4 and later, and iPod touch 7th generation.

Bug Also Fixed In macOS, tvOS And watchOS

Unc0ver jailbreak successfully worked to jailbreak Mac, Apple Watch, and Apple TV as well.

However, Apple has also fixed the flaw for all these devices too, as it released tvOS 13.4.6, watchOS 6.2.6, and macOS Catalina 10.15.5 Supplemental Update, Security Update 2020-003 High Sierra.

Unc0ver’s lead developer pwn20wnd has also confirmed about the fix. Thus he advises the users not to install the latest OS updates if they want to jailbreak their devices.

Unc0ver’s website already warns the users about such updates.

unc0ver Team strongly cautions against installing any iOS software update that breaks unc0ver as you can’t re-jail​break on versions of iOS that are not supported by unc0ver at that time.

Moreover, with these updates, Apple has merely addressed the jailbreak flaw. For all the devices, they have released no other security technical bug fixes.

For instance, right after the launch of iOS 13.5, people complained about the battery drainage. But the updates address no such bugs.

Hence, for users who are looking forward to updating their devices for better performance, this update isn’t worth it. Whereas, those who want to get rid of the jailbreak vulnerability may update their devices to the latest OS versions.

Requisitos:

• Ultima versión de iTunes en tu computador.
• Cable USB del Apple TV para conectar al computador.
• Control remoto del Apple TV (el de aluminio).
• Descargar la ultima versión de Seas0npass desde el enlace del paso 1.

Tutorial: Jailbreak Untethered al Apple TV 2 con firmware 5.3 (iOS 6.1.4 – 10B809)

Paso 1

Descarga y descomprime Seas0npass desde el siguiente enlace de acuerdo a tu sistema operativo:

Seas0nPass for Mac [10.6 o superior]

Seas0nPass for Windows [XP o superior]

Paso 2

Abre la aplicación Seas0npass con el botón derecho del mouse como administrador (Windows) o con el botón derecho en Abrir (Mac). Si te solicita tu clave de administrador (Mac), introduce la misma. Ahora que abriste la aplicación, presiona el botón Create IPSW para comenzar el proceso.

Paso 3

Se comenzara a descargar el ultimo software para tu Apple TV 2 si no lo tienes descargado en el computador, el cual se modificara luego con el Jailbreak. Debes esperar a que termine la descarga, el tiempo dependerá de la velocidad de tu internet.

Paso 4

Cuando te sea solicitado por el programa, conecta el Apple TV 2 al computador con el cable USB (con el cable de corriente DESCONECTADO). Si iTunes se abre automáticamente, cierralo. Cuando la luz que esta al frente del Apple TV comience a parpadear rápidamente, apunta el control remoto del Apple TV al dispositivo dejando presionado los botones MENU y PLAY/PAUSE simultáneamente por entre 7 y 10 segundos.

Nota: Los controles remotos viejos de color blanco no funcionan para este procedimiento, hay que usar el nuevo control plateado de aluminio.

Paso 5

El programa Seas0nPass completara la restauración del dispositivo y se te confirmara en la venta del programa con el botón Done.

Paso 6

Listo, si todo ha salido bien, tu Apple TV 2 tendrá hecho el Jailbreak. Para confirmar que tienes Jailbreak, conecta el Apple TV a tu televisor…

Apple TV Plus has a reported budget of $6 billion to attract Hollywood talent.

Apple TV Plus is the gadget giant’s subscription video streaming service featuring Apple‘s original TV shows and movies. It costs $5 a month but many people can unlock it free. 

With a reported budget of $6 billion to rope in some of Hollywood’s biggest stars, Apple TV Plus was the first to the battle lines in the streaming wars, a seven-month window of media giants and tech titans releasing a raft of new streaming services to take on Netflix. These battles — pitting rookies like Apple TV Plus, HBO Max, Disney Plus and NBCUniversal’s Peacock against heavyweights like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video — have spurred huge corporations to pour billions of dollars into the hope of shaping the future of television. 

Apple CEO Tim Cook isn’t playing at modesty. Before launch, he heralded Apple TV Plus as “unlike anything that’s been done before.” 

Apple TV Plus staked the most on The Morning Show, its marquee drama starring Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston with an eye-popping $300 million reported budget. Apple TV Plus launched with just nine total shows, including The Morning Show and others like Oprah’s Book Club, a book-focused talk show with celebrity Oprah Winfrey; See, a postapocalyptic thriller starring Jason Momoa; For All Mankind, an alternative retelling of the space race; and Dickinson, a comedy about poet Emily Dickinson starring Hailee Steinfeld and targeting a younger audience.

Since launch, the service has expanded to more than 30 shows and movies. Some of the most popular additions include Little America, an anthology series telling stories of immigrants in America; Mythic Quest, a comedy series about a dysfunctional video-game studio; The Banker, a movie about African American entrepreneurs who take on racist real estate practices in the 1960s, starring Anthony Mackie and Samuel L. Jackson; and Defending Jacob, a thriller miniseries starring Chris Evans about a family dealing with the accusation that their 14-year-old son is a murderer. 

But unlike rivals like Netflix and Disney Plus, Apple TV Plus doesn’t have a big back catalog of things to watch. It focused on new, original content, even if that meant having way less programming for subscribers to choose from versus competitors. But Apple switched gears earlier this year and began licensing some older programming. So far, the licensed titles are very limited — it released the original Jim Henson TV series Fraggle Rock to stream, for example, as a complement to its own new series of shorts based on the 1980s show. 

To soften the sting of such a limited library, Apple TV Plus is available free for many people, for now. Apple is offering a free year-long subscription to anyone who’s purchased an Apple device since Sept. 10. Apple is also bundling Apple TV Plus with its

Apple has joined the likes of Amazon and HBO in making some of its programming free to watch while we’re all stuck indoors sheltering from the new coronavirus – you can now tune into selected Apple TV Plus shows without the monthly subscription.

As Variety reports, the shows you can now view free of charge include wildlife doc The Elephant Queen, drama series Little America, and all eight creepy episodes of Servant (the creation of M. Night Shyamalan).

Also included in the deal is alternative literary biopic Dickinson, astronaut sci-fi show For All Mankind, plus the kids shows Helpsters, Ghostwriter and Snoopy in Space. That should be enough to get you through a few weeks at least.

It’s not everything that’s available on Apple TV Plus, but it’s a good chunk, and all that you need to start watching is an Apple ID. You can watch on any Apple device of course, among other devices, or on the web through a browser.

As per Variety, these shows were free to watch in the US on Thursday night (April 9) and will be available in another 100 countries on Friday (April 10). Fire up the Apple TV app on your device to see if you can get them.

Apple hasn’t said anything officially about the move (yet), but the company has been busy during the coronavirus pandemic – it has launched a Covid-19 screening tool and has also committed to making face shields for medical staff.

The move to unlock some Apple TV Plus content might not be completely altruistic though – the new Disney Plus streaming service has hit the ground running and is no doubt tempting a lot of cooped up users with its 7-day free trial (something Apple TV Plus offers too, by the way). Apple will be keen to counter that however it can.

Meanwhile the spread of Covid-19 continues to have a significant impact on the world of tech, with canceled events and postponed launches common. At least now you’ve got more to watch while you’re waiting to get back to normal.

Apple and Amazon might be rivals, but if Apple’s new streaming service is going to succeed, it needs to be available on as many platforms as possible from the jump. To that end, Apple released the Apple TV app on Amazon’s Fire TV Stick (2nd Gen), Fire TV Stick 4K, and Fire TV Basic Edition this week.

If you have any of these three devices, you can download and begin using Apple TV right away, where you will have access to your entire iTunes library, as well as Apple TV+ when it launches on November 1st.

If you want to buy or rent something from iTunes, you’ll need to do so on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac, or PC, but the content will immediately be available on the app once the purchase is complete. The same is true of an Apple TV+ subscription — you’ll need to subscribe from another device to access Apple TV+ on your Fire TV. It’s a bit more complicated than we’d like, but it’s better than not having the app at all.

If you want to get the app on your compatible Fire TV, you can either search for “Apple TV” by clicking the search icon in the top navigation on your device, or just head to this page on your browser and click “Continue.”

Amazon says that the Apple TV app will soon be available on the Fire TV Cube (1st and 2nd Gen), Fire TV (3rd Gen pendant design), Toshiba and Insignia Fire TV Edition smart TVs, and Nebula sound bar. If you have the Fire TV (1st and 2nd Gen) or Fire TV Stick (1st Gen), you’ll need to upgrade your hardware to get the app.

11. Click on Provenance on the top bar

12. Change to ProvenanceTV and select Apple TV

13. Click the play button

14. Log in with Apple account

Provenance will now begin installing to the Apple TV. Provenance will begin running on the Apple TV once it is installed.

1. Launch Provenance from the Apple TV

2. Click on Import ROMs

3. On your computer, type in the URL provided by Provenance

4. Go to the ROMS folder

5. Press Upload Files… and upload your ROM

6. In Provenance, go back…

Sadly you will have to do a bit of research to see what local sports network each has in your area. Apple has made nine series and movies completely free to watch. These are:

• Little America – comedy drama focusing on immigrants who have settled in America
• Servant – psychological thriller about a couple who experience a tragic event, only for a mysterious force to enter their home
• For all Mankind – space drama from Star Trek‘s Ronald D. Moore
• Dickinson – comedy starring Hailee Steinfeld about the early life of writer Emily Dickinson
• Helpsters – kids’ puppet show from the creators of Sesame Street
• Ghostwriter – four kids are helped by a ghost on their mission to release fictional characters from the books they feature in
• Snoopy in Space – animation in which the iconic pup becomes an astronaut
• Oprah’s talks on the coronavirus pandemic

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Apple’s flagship shows See and The Morning Show aren’t included. It still wants you to subscribe to its £4.99/$4.99-per-month service, natch! You can, however, watch those for free by signing up to the Apple TV+ seven-day free trial.

How to watch Apple TV+ shows for free

To watch, all you’ll need is the Apple TV app. This comes pre-installed on supported devices made by Apple (and some Samsung smart TVs) or can be downloaded for other devices like Roku and Amazon streaming sticks.

Then just follow these steps.

• Open the TV app on your supported device
• Sign in with your Apple ID
• Select a show and start watching

Apple is rumored to be working on a first-party video game controller that’s likely to be compatible with all of its major hardware products, such as Apple TV, the iPad, and the iPhone. While a new gamepad from Apple is not something that’s essential, it is needed, and can’t come soon enough.

Apple is synonymous with the iPhone, but the company is hoping to change that and broaden its appeal. This is not just simply a matter of wanting to move beyond the iPhone, but more a case of the company understanding the real growth opportunities right now are outside the saturated smartphone market. As a result, Apple has expanded its hardware lineup to include audio and TV in recent years, as well as the services it offers, including into gaming with Apple Arcade.

Tipster, @L0vetodream recently stated that Apple is working on a new game controller and suggested that it will arrive either later this year or next year. The tipster does have a reasonable track record on these things, leading to the news becoming highly reported on within the media this week. No firm details were provided on what the controller will look like, if it will come with any notable features, or how much it might cost. Although it is likely it will be cross-platform compatible, meaning it will work with Apple’s phones, tablets, and Apple TV.

An Apple gamepad is needed, although it is not essential. For example, Apple already should have a game controller on the market, considering it has all of the rest of the setup in place. It not only provides the hardware with Apple TV, but also the ability to stream games online through Apple Arcade. This in itself makes the lack of an existing Apple games controller all the more perplexing. Regardless of whether it is a good controller or not, there will be many consumers who would prefer to have an official Apple product to marry with the rest of their setup. In fact, Apple TV is one of the more expensive set-top boxes for the living room and the remote that comes with it, is anything but useful. If the same device had been packaged with a controller, then it might suddenly be a much better and worthwhile purchase. With the hardware and the software already in place, an Apple gamepad shouldn’t be currently in development, it should already be here.
