Quick-tip for you AppleTV2 users out there, who likes to jailbreak using Seas0nPass.

The instructions for Seas0nPass to enter DFU mode is

Step 4: When prompted, connect your Apple TV to your Mac/PC using a micro-USB cable (leave power cable disconnected).

Once the light on the front of the Apple TV begins to flash rapidly, point the remote at the Apple TV and hold both the MENU and PLAY/PAUSE buttons for 7 seven seconds.

However, this never worked for me. Not the first time, and not the second time either (months later, when I was updating to AppleTV software version 5.2). The Seas0nPass jailbreak software tool just kept saying “Waiting for device to enter DFU mode…”.

Here’s how I fixed it, replace step 4 above with this:

Step 4: When prompted, connect your Apple TV to your Mac/PC using a micro-USB cable first (and then connect power cable also). Give it a few seconds, then hold the MENU and PLAY/PAUSE buttons on the silver remove (white remote doesn’t work) for about 7 seconds, until the LED starts flashing rapidly. Now the Seas0nPass jailbreak tool will find the AppleTV in DFU mode and continue the process.

Some also reports that it starts working if you try a different USB cable, and still follow the original instructions.

Afterwards, Seas0nPass will run a script to have iTunes update the jailbroken firmware. It will run for a while and eventually my iTunes said that it couldn’t connect to the AppleTV.  I removed the power cable (but kept USB cable in), and after a moment the LED started flashing (not as rapidly as when entering DFU mode), and iTunes said AppleTV had been restored.

Now I connected it to my TV and booted it up, and saw that the Settings icon had been replaced with a red image with “fC” in it (for “fireCore”, who’s behind Seas0nPass).  Jailbreak completed and successful, now onto installing “aTV Flash (black)”.

All of the above was done on a MacBook Pro Retina running Mac OS X 10.8.2.  Your mileage may vary.

This article helps you troubleshoot these issues. Please note that YouTube has two similar apps:

• YouTube App (the standard YouTube) and,
• YouTube TV App (YouTube’s premium service at a cost of $49.99 per month).

The tips described below will address both of the apps.

Most of the issues can be broken down into three basic categories:

• A software glitch.
• An update issue.
• A network connectivity issue.

Please try each step below until your issue is fixed:

1. Restart the YouTube app. Please note that you can only close and open the app on the Apple TV 4K and Apple TV HD. If your device is the Apple TV first, second or third generation, then go to step # 2. Here is how:

• Using your Siri remote, double press the TV/Home button. This will open the app switcher.
• In the app-switching view, swipe right or left to find the YouTube app.
• Swipe up to quit the YourTube app.
• Then you can return to the main screen by pressing the Home button.
• Now try to open YouTube.

2. Restart your Apple TV. Here is how:

• On your Apple TV 4K or Apple TV HD, go to Settings > System > Restart.
• On your Apple TV (3rd generation and earlier), go to Settings > General > Restart.

You can also manually restart your Apple TV:

• Unplug the power cable.
• Wait 10 seconds.
• Plug the power cable back in.

And lastly, you can use your remote to restart your Apple TV:

• Siri Remote or Apple TV Remote: Press and hold the Menu and Home buttons together until the Apple TV status light flashes.
• White or Aluminum Remote: Press and hold the Menu and Down buttons until the status light flashes.

Then, try YouTube again.

3. Update your Apple TV. Make sure that your Apple TV is running the latest firmware.

• Apple TV 4K or Apple TV HD: Go to Settings > System > Software Updates > Update Software. This will check for updates and if there is an update, follow the onscreen instructions to download and install.
• Apple TV (3rd generation): Go to Settings > General > Software Updates > Update Software. Again if there is an update available, update your Apple TV.

When you reset your Apple TV, you are returning it to its original factory settings. This can be helpful if you have a major glitch hindering its function or if you wish to completely wipe your device and sell or give it to somebody new. 

A reset will delete every app and customized setting on your Apple TV device. Therefore, this is not a reversible procedure and once undertaken you cannot interrupt or stop the reset.

Once the reset has started, your screen will go blank. Do not unplug your Apple TV while it’s resetting.

Over a month ago I touched up on some of the latest news I read in regards to the Apple TV 3 Jailbreak and whether or not those rumors were true. After doing a little digging I found out that the jailbreaking community is bigger business then I thought. After mentioning in my original post about the jailbreak news not being true and in fact it wasn’t even close to being accomplished I again today decided to follow up on that post and to see what was going on with the latest. Low and behold I seen a new approach by some of the same scam sites, only this time they’re asking you for help perhaps to try and gain back some of the user trust they’ve lost in lying to everyone and stealing money from people in the past.

From the looks of it the story keeps getting better and better. This time the known scam site appletv3jailbreak dot com has offered up an alternative to help speed up the jailbreak process. Before I get into that let’s not forget that it was this same website saying a few months back that an ATV3 jailbreak was in the works and would be released by the end of December…then January…then the start of February. It never happened. A good scam is only effective if you don’t over do it and not milking it. Needless to say now you haven’t seen any mention on any of the websites claiming a jailbreak was days away and now instead a new scam has arrived in it’s place.

The latest Scam

Now that same site who dupped people out of their money and claimed to have the ATV3 jailbreak days away from release is now asking for your help once more (most notably your money).

The story suggests that with their help and getting as many beta testers as possible will eventually help produce the Apple TV 3 Jailbreak. Truth of the matter is this is nothing more then another legit scam from a known scamming site. Everyone wants to believe…trust me. A lot of other users such as myself would be happy to see the jailbreak come to fruition but you have to ask yourself these questions when looking at not only this site but others offering up similar solutions.

First and foremost have any other dev team’s charged for anything when it came to jailbreaking software? Most of them offer up there tool free of charge but it takes your time for research and knowledge to jailbreak your device. There are companies out there like Firecore who are charging for their software but it’s a little different. You don’t need Firecore to jailbreak your older ATV 2, they’ve just created a tool that makes it a lot easier to install the jailbreak along with other software such as XBMC all in one…

Apple is used to dominating the market when it comes to phones, tablets and smartwatches. It’s a different story for media streaming devices, where the Apple TV goes up against popular offerings from Roku, Google, and Amazon.

If you’re an Apple fan, though, you’ll love what the company has done with the latest iteration of Apple TV ($149.99 at Amazon) . A new remote adds voice control with Siri, a touchpad, and an accelerometer and gyroscope for games. And this fall, there will be even more to watch once the Apple TV+ streaming service arrives.

The standard HD Apple TV costs $149 for 32GB of storage space. The Apple TV 4K edition costs $179 for 32GB or $199 for 64GB. Let’s see what you can do with it.

Turn Anything into a Remote

You’ll need the remote that comes with the Apple TV during the setup process, but you’re not stuck with it after that. Turn your iPhone into a remote with the Apple TV Remote app for iOS. (For Android users, there are some apps not made by Apple on Google Play.)

You can also use a traditional third-party remote. On your Apple TV, navigate to Settings > General > Remotes > Learn Remote, where you can map your remote to work with the device.

Check Remote Battery Levels

Is your Apple TV remote dead or just in need of new batteries? Go to Settings > Remotes and Devices to view how much charge is left. Click Remote to see the actual percentage number.

Adjust Remote Sensitivity

The newest Apple TV remote uses a touchpad instead of directional buttons, but sometimes the surface can be a little too sensitive. If you find that it’s hard to make the selections you want because you’re always overshooting the apps, adjust how quickly it scrolls by going to Settings > Remotes and Devices > Touch Surface Tracking. The default setting is medium, but you can change it to fast or slow.

1. Identify Apple TV Model by Model Number

All the different Apple TV’s can be identified by their different model numbers. You must have noticed that their model numbers begin with the letter ‘A’ and link directly to their specific device. You can identify the model number of your particular device by:

• Going to settings tab on the TV > General > About.
• Checking the bottom of your Apple TV.
• Checking the box of the ATV.

2. Identifying by ports and connectors:

Each Apple device has specific ports and connectors that are respective to the model which is described below:

• Apple TV (1st Generation)

This device contains the most connectors and ports out of the five models. It contains a power port, a port for HDMI, a component video port, Ethernet port, an optical digital audio port, an analog audio port and a USB 2.0 for service and support.

The networking capabilities of the first generation Apple TV include 10/100 BASE-T Ethernet and Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g/n), as well as an IR receiver.

• Apple TV (2nd Generation and 3rd Generation)

Both the models are almost similar and have slightly less ports and connectors than the 1st generation model. The only difference lies in the pixels of both the models as the 3rd generation model has more (720 p or 180 p).

The ports are also identical in both the models – a power port, Ethernet port, optical digital audio, HDMI port and micro-USB.

The models also have the same networking capabilities – Wi-Fi (802.11a/b/g/n) and 10/100BASE-T Ethernet – and include an IR receiver.

• Apple TV (4th Generation)

The 4th generation has only four ports that are used for power supply, HDMI 1.4 (720 p or 1080 p), Ethernet and USB – C.

The 4th generation model also includes 10/100BASE-T Ethernet, WI-Fi (802.11a/b/g/n/ac with MIMO) and Bluetooth 4.0 wireless technology. The Apple TV also comes with an IR receiver.

• Apple TV 4K

Last but not the least, the Apple TV 4K comes with only three ports – HDMI (2160 p), a Gigabit Ethernet and a power port.
